Saharanpur follows the standards of Uttar Pradesh road tax. Every car owner must pay Road tax at the time of vehicle registration. Failing to do so means one loses the right to legally use the vehicle on the road.

• For Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the cost of the vehicle
• For Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the cost of the vehicle
• For Commercial Vehicles: ₹665 to ₹3,320 depending on its loading capacity

• Over Boarding of Passengers: ₹200 for every extra passenger and/or community service
• Vehicles Without Permit: ₹10,000 and/or up to 6 months prison, community service

According to the Motor Vehicle Act of 2019, it is mandatory to have car insurance when driving a car. The rule remains valid in Saharanpur as well. If any vehicle owner is found without a legit car insurance policy, they must pay a fine.

If a person is caught for the first time, they must pay ₹2000 and/or imprisonment. However, if the action is repeated, they must pay ₹4000 and/or imprisonment.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken responsibility for developing Saharanpur city into a "safe city". As per reports, he has asked to install more security cameras and arrange ambulances and cranes at busy, accident-prone intersections. He stressed the installation of cameras to control crimes. Moreover, he has asked the Municipal Corporation and Police department to develop a joint plan for the same.

In 2022, the UP government launched a Road Safety campaign to spread road safety awareness among all. Departments like police, traffic, education, transport, and urban development have been asked to participate in this campaign.
