RTO Kannauj

Kannauj, derived from Kanyakubja, is a name of a city in Uttar Pradesh with a large population and a rich cultural and archaeological heritage. Consequentially maintaining and monitoring traffic in this locality is a crucial part of keeping the harmony of daily life in the city. This responsibility rests in the hands of the Kannauj RTO (code: UP-74).

Kannauj RTO is responsible for providing various services such as: 

• Issuing learner's licence and permanent licence

• Renew driving licence and  registration certificate

• Issuing vehicle registration certificate

• Charging penalties against breaking traffic rules

• Providing duplicate RC for vehicle, hypothecation certificate, duplicate licence

• Reform and initiate new rules

• Regulation of driving schools

• Road tax collection

• Issuing  motor vehicle permits

• Promotion of road safety

Kannauj RTO provides multiple types of driving licence. Here is a list of those licences: 

• Two-wheeler licence: Below 50cc engine capacity

• Heavy goods motor vehicle licence

• Heavy trailer licence: For people with a heavy motor licence

• Light motor vehicle licence: Motorcycle with gear and over 50cc engine capacity 

• Light motor vehicle licence: For non-transport and commercial purposes

Kannauj RTO provides two types of vehicle registration: 

1. Permanent Registration

2. Temporary Registration 

One gets a plate number for their vehicle after the completion of the registration process.

In Kannauj there are various types of charges related to the registration of a vehicle. Here is a short list of the charges: 

Registration of a vehicle has a number of services involved, and a variety of charges for each. Here is a list of some of the services and their charges: 

• Registration charges: ₹600

• Temporary registration charges: ₹1200 - ₹1500

• Number plate charges: ₹230 - ₹400 

• FasTag charges: ₹600

Depending on the type and subtype of vehicles, UP road tax varies. Kannauj follows a similar system. Here follows a short list: 

• Cars costing below ₹6.00 lakh – 3% of their price 

• Cars costing between ₹6.00 lakh and 10.00 lakh – 6% of their price

• Two-wheeler costing below ₹0.20 – 2% of their price

• Two-wheeler costing over ₹0.20 lakh and up to ₹0.60 lakh – 4% of their price 

• Vehicles with loading capacity below 1 ton - ₹665

• Vehicles with loading capacity above 1 ton and below 2 tons - ₹940

The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act of 2019, has seriously changed what a person would face if he or she does not follow traffic rules. Here is a short list of traffic violation fines for breaking traffic rules in Kannauj: 

• Driving without a licence: ₹5000 

• Overspeeding: ₹1000 -2000 (LMV), ₹2000-4000 (MPV/HPV)

• Drunk driving: ₹10000 (first time), ₹15000 and imprisonment (second time) 

• Driving without a seat belt: ₹1000

• Usage of horn in silent zones: ₹2000 (first time), ₹4000 (second time)

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance as it provides coverage for situations that can arise during accidents where a third-party property or a third person is injured. If one does not have that insurance but drives on a public road, he or she may have to pay ₹1000 and along with it a 3 months imprisonment.

As per the 19th January 2023 official statement, several development projects are being planned for the improvement of transportation that is going to focus on many important localities including Kannauj.

A special road safety campaign was organised at Mohanlal Shukla Inter College where authorities held a painting competition in order to make students and the general public aware of the traffic rules and the necessity to abide by them. Furthermore, the district nodal officer has also stressed the gravity of the issue of road safety in the form of road safety campaigns.
