As the city of the Taj Mahal, Agra attracts a huge number of tourists throughout the year. The footfall of thousands of tourists contributes to increased carbon emissions in the city. Agra RTO performs the duty of managing the number of vehicles in the city. It also keeps a watch on the emission levels to keep them under control in the heritage site. In addition,  Agra RTO bears the code UP-80 and is responsible for enforcing transport regulations in the city.  

Agra’s RTO office is authorised to perform several administrative duties regarding transport. It includes:

• Issue/renew various types of vehicle permits

• Offer permits for driving schools

• Collect road tax

• Issue learner’s licence 

• Provide modification permit for vehicles

• Authenticate transfer of car ownership

• Issue/renew vehicle registration certificate (RC)

• Issue NOC against the transfer of ownership

• Issue vehicle registration transfer permit

• Levy and collect vehicle tax

• Issue vehicle fitness certificate

RTO Agra issues different types of driving licences for personal and commercial use. The following are the types: 

• International driving licence
• Driver’s licence (personal)
• Driver’s licence (commercial)
• Heavy goods motor vehicle licence
• Learner’s permit

There are two types of vehicle registration valid in Agra:

• Temporary Registration

• Permanent Registration

Following vehicle registration charges apply to vehicles in the Agra RTO region:

• Two-wheelers: ₹300

• Three wheelers: ₹600 - ₹1000

• LMV: ₹600

• Commercial four-wheelers: ₹1000

• Commercial Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle: ₹1500

• Imported Vehicles: Cars – ₹5000, Bikes – ₹2500

The following Uttar Pradesh road tax structure is applicable in the Agra RTO region:

• Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle price 

• Four-wheelers: 3% to 8% of the vehicle price

• Commercial Vehicles: ₹665 to ₹3320 (Variable as per carrying weight)

Failure to follow Agra’s traffic rules imposes a penalty on the violator. The applicable charges are as follows: 

• Driving without a helmet: ₹300-₹600

• Driving without a licence: ₹300

• Overspeeding: ₹300

• Exceeding permitted noise levels: ₹100

• Violating air pollution standards: ₹400

• Driving two or three-wheelers on non-permitted fuels: ₹200

Yes, as per Indian Motor Law, it is mandatory to have motor insurance for every on-road vehicle. The law dictates that each vehicle must have at least third-party insurance coverage. This was implemented to ensure that no individual gets financially affected due to a road accident.

Recently, Agra hosted the G20 Summit. Delegates from all across the globe assembled in Agra to attend the conference. Due to the massive influx of foreign dignitaries in the city, the local administration issued a traffic advisory. The administration advised the locals to avoid Mall Road and Fatehabad Road (VVIP route) for a total period of 3 days.

To aid Nagar Kirtan on the roads of Agra, traffic police had set up multiple diversion points across the city. These diversions increased the average commute time for locals. However, it also prevented traffic jams in the city.

Recently, traffic came to a standstill on the Agra-Lucknow expressway. As per reports, a truck carrying medicines suddenly caught on fire on the expressway. The accident caused disruption of normal traffic movement. However, the fire department quickly rushed to the spot - taking the fire under control. 

As a world-famous tourist destination, Agra invites both domestic as well as international visitors. 

To ensure safe and smooth traffic movement, local administration takes various measures. With the help of technology, Agra traffic police have invented a way to keep a tab on unauthorised vehicles in the region. As per reports, Agra RTO has introduced software to identify unauthorised vehicles each time they pass an intersection. 

The Smart City Control Room App will notify the administration about the vehicle’s activity. It keeps track of all offences such as jumping red lights, high-speed, running after an accident etc.    

Recently, the CM of UP launched a state-wide road safety campaign. The month-long campaign was launched, especially during the winter months. Low temperature and dense fog during this period affect visibility. It leads to an increased amount of road accidents in the state. 

The campaign creates awareness about the correct kind of traffic behaviour during winter. Citizens were advised to use fog lights. The administration also encouraged locals to drive slowly when visibility is poor.
