RTO Basti

Basti is a district in Uttar Pradesh with rich cultural history. The origin of the place can be found in the ancient text of Ramayana. Earlier it used to be mostly covered with forests. Due to the rapid growth and development in the state it has become a pivotal point in Uttar Pradesh.

The responsibility of RTO Office Basti UP-51 includes:

RTO in Basti offers two types of vehicle registration:

According to Section 3 of the UP Motor Vehicle Taxation Act 1962, every individual who owns a vehicle has to pay road tax from the time of registration as long as the vehicle lasts. Currently, Basti follows the structure of Uttar Pradesh road tax. Here is a highlight of the same.

Two-wheeled motor vehicle:

• Moped: ₹150

• Two-wheeler within ₹2 lakh: 2% of the vehicle’s value

• Two-wheeler over ₹20000 and below ₹60000: 4% of the vehicle’s value

• Two-wheeler over ₹60000 and up to ₹2 lakh: 6% of the vehicle’s value

• Two-wheeler over ₹2 lakh: 8% of the vehicle’s value

Four-wheeled motor vehicle:

• Four-wheeler within ₹6 lakh: 3% of the vehicle’s value

• Four-wheelers over ₹6 lakh and below ₹10 lakh: 6% of the vehicle’s value

• Four-wheelers over ₹10 lakh and below ₹20 lakh: 8% of the vehicle’s value

• Four-wheeler over ₹20.00 lakh: 9% of the vehicle’s value

• Drink and drive: ₹10000 or 6 months of imprisonment
• Juvenile offences: ₹25000 with three years of imprisonment 
• Driving/Riding without a licence: ₹5000

• Driving/Riding without insurance: ₹2000 or 3 months of imprisonment, community service, and ₹4000 in case of repetitive violation if you drive or ride without insurance.

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance when driving a vehicle in Basti. Every vehicle owner must have at least third-party insurance. Driving without insurance can cost you up to ₹2000 for the first offence and ₹4000 in case of repetitive violation.

One of the biggest reasons for accidents in Basti UP is collisions between cars and animals on highways. In a recent report, a car lost control and got overturned after colliding with a Nilgai on the Ayodhya-Basti highway. Three people were killed while 4 others were seriously injured in the accident. 

The UP Transport Department along with the Basti Police and UP Forest Department are trying to minimise the number of animal-caused accidents.
