Ayodhya, the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ram is one of the oldest cities in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on the banks of river Saryu. It is the administrative headquarters of the Faizabad district.

Ayodhya RTO follows the Uttar Pradesh road taxes depending on the categories of vehicles and their costs. These include:

• For Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle’s price
• For Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the vehicle’s price
• For Commercial Vehicles (loading below 1 ton to 10 tons): ₹665 to ₹3320
• For Commercial Vehicles (loading above 10 tons): ₹3320 + ₹470 per ton

There are new traffic fines in Ayodhya for breaking traffic rules while driving. It follows the structure ofUttar Pradesh traffic fines. Here is a list of fines applicable for punishable acts.

• Disobedience of lawful direction: ₹150
• Allowing a person to drive without a licence, transport vehicle authorization or in breach of conditions and Underage driving: ₹150 to ₹300
• Driving without a licence: ₹300
• Driving at excessive speed: ₹300
• Driving at dangerous speed or manner: ₹350 to ₹500
• Racing trial without a State Government’s consent: ₹300
• Violating standards of air pollution and road safety: ₹400 and ₹500

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving a vehicle in Ayodhya. In this regard, if someone drives without an insurance policy, there will be a fine of ₹2000 applicable on the first offence. It will be ₹4000 for the second time regarding the same.

There has been news about a protest of e-rickshaw drivers against an administration order regarding the ban of three-wheelers into the city. The e-rickshaw drivers blocked the Ayodhya-Lucknow National Highway and caused traffic congestion. The police department had to intervene and resort to a lathi charge to clear the congestion and restore normalcy.

Another report suggests, the police department of Ayodhya has issued several diversions on the Lucknow-Ayodhya National Highway to ease the Kavadiya movement near Saryu Ghat in Ayodhya. It also suggests that the diversion impacted only heavy vehicles and only the two lanes were open for emergency vehicles.

Uttar Pradesh Transport Department conducted a Road Safety Month campaign from 5th Jan 2023 till 4th February to increase awareness regarding road safety. The state transport department regulates some other measures including:

• Incorporating road safety rules into the school curriculum
• Instructed to design murals on the walls of school premises regarding road safety
• Improving the road signs and signals indicating accident-prone spots
• LED screen-equipped mobile vans
