RTO Sant Ravidas Nagar

Sant Ravidas Nagar was the 65th district of Uttar Pradesh. It was built in the early 20th century and was earlier known as Bhadohi. Sant Ravidas Nagar has only one Regional Transport Office. This RTO is known by its unique code, UP-66.

As the only Regional Transport Office in Sant Ravidas Nagar, it had several important functions. Some of these are the following:

• Collecting Motor Vehicle Tax and Road Tax from the registered vehicles
• Issuing driving licences
• Issuing duplicate driving licences
• Renewing driving licences
• Conducting driving tests
• Providing learners’ licence
• Registering motor vehicles
• Renewing vehicle registration certificates

Here are the types of driving licences the RTO in Sant Ravidas Nagar issues.

• Permanent Driving Licence
• Commercial Driving Licence
• Learner’s Driving Licence
• Inter-State and National Permits
• All India Tourist Vehicle Authorisation and Permit
• International Driving Permit

In the Sant Ravidas Nagar RTO, only two types of vehicle registration are done. These are as follows:

• Permanent Vehicle Registration
• Temporary Vehicle Registration

Post vehicle registration, the vehicle owner gets a registration number. They must display this registration number on the number plate of their vehicle. 

Throughout the state of Uttar Pradesh, uniform vehicle registration charges are applied. Hence, the RTO in Sant Ravidas Nagar follows the same charges.

• Registration Charges: ₹600 for all cars, irrespective of their values

• Temporary Registration Charges: ₹1500-₹2000 for a validity of one month

• Hypothecation Charges: ₹1500, only applies if one avails loan for this vehicle

In RTO Sant Ravidas Nagar, the officials levy the same tax as per Uttar Pradesh road tax. The tax amount varies due to several parameters. For instance, the type of vehicle, engine capacity, ex-showroom price of one's vehicle etc. However, the vehicle type is the key factor for road tax in Uttar Pradesh. Here is a list for more clarity.

• For Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle’s value

• For Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the vehicle’s value

• For Commercial vehicles: ₹665 to ₹3320, depending on the loading capacity

In case someone violates the traffic rules in Sant Ravidas Nagar, they will be penalised. There are mainly two variants of penalisation, either you pay a fine or face imprisonment. Sometimes they also suggest community services, but it depends on the type of traffic violation. Here is a list of traffic violations and the penalty one may pay.

• Drunk driving: ₹10,000 and/or six months in prison. When one repeats this same offence again, the penalty increases to ₹15,000 and/or two years in jail.

• Over-speeding: Licence seize along with ₹1,000- ₹2,000 (for light motor vehicles), ₹2,000- ₹4,000 (for medium and heavy motor vehicles)

• Driving without a licence: ₹5,000 and/or community service

• Holding mobile in hand while driving: ₹5000

• Over-boarding of passengers: ₹200 for every extra passenger and/or community service

• Riding a bike without a helmet: ₹1000, and or licence disqualification, community service for three months

• Using horn in the silent zones: ₹2,000, ₹4,000 if they commit the same offence again

Having at least a third-party liability insurance plan to drive a vehicle in India is compulsory. Thus, Sant Ravidas Nagar is no exception. The Motor Vehicle Act in India makes this compulsion. If any motor vehicle is caught without insurance operating on the streets of Sant Ravidas Nagar, it will face serious consequences. Hence it is mandatory to have motor insurance in Sant Ravidas Nagar.

As reported by the Print, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a state-wide road-safety campaign in Uttar Pradesh. This campaign is going to continue for a month, from 5th January to 4th February. The Sant Ravidas Nagar district is also a part of this campaign.
