RTO Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur is one of the oldest cities in Uttar Pradesh and has a special significance as a popular Hindu tourism centre. The area is densely populated and due to this, the traffic sector is also under the special attention of the government. At the primary level, the traffic rules and vehicle-related issues of Gorakhpur are managed by Gorakhpur RTO which has a code number UP-53.

Gorakhpur RTO offers different types of services covering almost every need of drivers. These are classified into two parts, driver-related functions, and vehicle-related functions.

Driver-related functions cover the following

• Issuing driving licences
• Issuance of international driving license
• Updating the vehicle-class information in the Driver's Licences
• Issuance of Learners Licence
• Issuance of duplicate Drivers Licence
• Renewal of Drivers Licence, changing information on Drivers Licence.

On the other hand, vehicle-related functions include:

• Vehicle registration certificate of new vehicles, and renewal as well

• Transferring vehicle ownership

• Issuance of high-security number plates or HSRPs

• Collecting road taxes as per the vehicles

• Issuance of special permits for commercial vehicles

Here are the types of driving licence that Gorakhpur RTO provides:

• Light Motor Vehicle (commercial) licence

• Light Motor Vehicle (non-transport) licence

• Motorcycles (up to 50cc engine) licence

• Heavy goods vehicles driving licence

• Licence for vehicles without gear

• Licence for motorcycles and cars with more than 50cc engine capacity

• Heavy passenger vehicles driving licence

• Heavy trailer driving licence

Gorakhpur RTO has two types of vehicle registration:

• Permanent Registration

• Temporary Registration

As the registration process completes you will get the number that you need to show on the number plate of your vehicle.

The vehicle registration charges in Gorakhpur are as follows:

• Invalid carriages: Registration charge ₹50, Renewal charge ₹50

• Medium goods carrying vehicles: Registration charge ₹1000, Renewal charge ₹1000

• Light motor vehicles: Registration charge ₹600, renewal charge ₹5000

• Heavy passenger vehicles: Registration charge ₹1500, renewal charge ₹1500

• 3-wheelers or motorcycles (imported): Registration charge ₹2500, renewal charge ₹10000

• Medium passenger vehicles: Registration charge ₹1500, renewal charges ₹1000

• Three-wheelers(non-transport): Registration charge ₹600, renewal charge ₹2500

Gorakhpur follows the norms of UP road tax. The norms are set according to the type, capacity, and weight of the vehicles are listed below:

Two-wheeler

• Two-wheelers that weigh up to  90.72 kg: ₹150

• Two-wheelers below ₹0.20 lakh:  2% of the value of the vehicle

• Two-wheelers that range between ₹0.20 lakh to ₹0.60 lakh: 4% of the value of the vehicle

• Two-wheelers that range between ₹0.60 lakh to ₹2 lakh: 6% of the value of the vehicle

• Two-wheelers above ₹2 lakh: 8% of the value of the vehicle

Four-wheeler

• Four-wheelers up to ₹6 lakh: 3% of the value of the vehicle

• Four-wheelers cost between₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh: 6% of the value of the vehicle

• Four-wheelers cost between ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh: 8% of the value of the vehicle

• Four-wheelers above ₹20 lakh: 9% of the value of the vehicle

Loading Capacity

• Loading capacity below 1 ton: ₹665

• Loading capacity between 1 ton to 2 tons: ₹946

• Loading  capacity between 2 tons to 4 tons: ₹1430

• Loading  capacity between 4 tons to 6 tons: ₹1915

• Loading  capacity between 6 tons to 8 tons: ₹2375

• Loading  capacity between 8 tons to 9 tons: ₹2865

• Loading  capacity between above 10 tons: ₹3320 along with added vehicle tax for UP transport for each ton

• Each tone above 10 tons: ₹470

As a result of breaking traffic rules  the offenders have to pay traffic fines and penalty charges. These charges are, however, uniform throughout the state:

• Driving and talking on mobile phone: ₹1000 (first time)

• Driving and talking on mobile phone: ₹10000 (second time)

• Driving and not wearing a helmet: ₹500

• Driving and not wearing a seatbelt: ₹1000

• Over speeding: ₹4000

• Wrong parking: ₹500 (first time)

• Wrong parking: ₹1500 (second time)

Like all other parts of Uttar Pradesh, it is mandatory to have vehicle insurance to drive a vehicle on the road. It is a security for your vehicle and also legally important. Further, violating this rule can cause penalties and licence suspension.

Gorakhpur is a busy region in Uttar Pradesh so traffic congestion is very common here. Besides, the reporting of unfortunate road mishaps is also quite frequent in this region. One such stark example is the recent report of a collision of a minister’s SUV with a tractor trolly, but luckily the minister was saved. Another news of injury of 11 on the Lucknow-Gorakhpur National Highway due to a multi-vehicle crash was also reported in the latter part of the previous year.

However, local RTO and the higher authority are trying to manage these mishaps from their end. Besides, different road construction projects are also running and on the verge of completion. For instance, construction of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway from Jaitpur village (NH-27) to Chainage near Purvanchal Expressway is an important construction project. Apart from this, Gorakhpur-Siliguri expressway construction is another important roadway construction in this region.

To increase road safety awareness, a campaign was arranged under the road safety drive of Dainik Jagran where 3 lakh people took oath to maintain traffic rules. Apart from this, the UP government also arranged a month-long road safety awareness campaign where every district including Gorakhpur took part.
