RTO Unnao

This historically rich town is situated between two rivers namely River Ganga and River Sai in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Services such as vehicle registration and driving licence issuance are necessary for Unnao city’s current population who rely solely on Unnao RTO (UP-35) for those services and many more.

The main functions of Unnao RTO are: 

• Reform and initiate new rules
• Issuing learner's licence and permanent licence
• Issuing vehicle registration certificate
• Providing duplicate RC for vehicle, duplicate licence, hypothecation certificate
• Road tax collection
• Charging penalties against breaking traffic rules
• Regulation of driving schools
• Renew driving licence and  registration certificate
• Promotion of road safety
• Issuing  motor vehicle permits

There are several types of driving licence that Unnao RTO officials deal with. Here is a list of some of those:

• Two-wheeler licence
• Light motor vehicle licence 
• Heavy goods motor vehicle licence
• Heavy trailer licence

Unnao RTO provides 2 types of vehicle registration:

1.  Permanent Registration

2.  Temporary  Registration

After the registration is complete one gets a number to display on the number plate, and it is mandatory to carry a hard or soft copy of the registration certificate while driving in Unnao.

Unnao RTO’s vehicle registration charges are similar to that of the states. Here are some of the charges related to registration: 

• Registration charges: ₹600 for every vehicle
• Number plate charges: ₹230 - ₹400
• Temporary registration charges: ₹1200 - ₹1500
• FasTag charges: ₹600
• Hypothecation charges: ₹1500 for cars bought on loan

Unnao RTOs follow Uttar Pradesh road tax system. Here is a simple list that displays the scale:

• Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle’s cost (priced lower than ₹0.20 to more than ₹2 lakh) 
• Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the vehicle’s cost (priced lower than ₹6 lakh to ₹20 lakh) 
• Commercial vehicles: ₹665 to ₹3320 (for load-bearing capacity lower than 1 ton to more than 10 tons)

For breaking traffic rules in Unnao, there is a set list of traffic violation fines and penalties. It is identical to what the state follows. A short description is provided on the same.

• Preventing emergency vehicles to proceed: ₹10000 (may include community service)
• Drunk Driving: ₹500 - ₹1000
• Riding helmetless: ₹1000 (may include 3 months of community service and licence disqualification)
• Driving without a seat belt: ₹1000 (may include community service)
• Overloading the vehicle: ₹20000

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance while driving which applies to the whole state and the country. This insurance is there to provide cover for the losses that can happen due to any accident and involves the insurance owner or a third person.

According to a 3^rd February report, 8 people met with an accident among whom 5 died and 3 got heavily injured on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao. This incident took place in the Auras area where a speeding car moving towards Lucknow lost control and collided with another instantly killing 5 people.

The Chief Minister of the state expressed grief and directed senior officers along with the DM to supervise the relief work from the spot. 

Moreover, a 29^th January report says that, on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, there was an incident of vehicle pile-up due to foggy conditions which resulted in injury to 15 people including 2 women.

The Uttar Pradesh government has set a target to reduce the number of road accidents (which causes approximately 22,000 deaths per year according to The Times of India report).

The state’s road safety campaign includes the following steps against road accidents among many: 

• Infrastructural development to produce better drivers
• Creation of road safety clubs
• Improvement of the national highways
• Boosting emergency care and deployment of ALS ambulance
