RTO Kaushambi

In ancient India Kosambi or the present day Kaushambi was a very important city being the centre point of communication of the east to west and north to south. The transportation related needs and services like issuance of vehicle registration, issuance of DLs, etc. of its people are met by the Regional Transport Office (UP-73) here. It currently houses a large population and is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The main functions of Kaushambi RTO are:

• Charging penalties against breaking traffic rules
• Issuing learner's licence and permanent licence
• Regulation of driving schools
• Renew driving licence and  registration certificate
• Issuing vehicle registration certificate
• Reform and initiate new rules
• Providing duplicate RC for vehicle, duplicate licence, hypothe cation certificate
• Promotion of road safety
• Road tax collection
• Issuing  motor vehicle permits

Officials at Kaushambi RTO issue several types of driving licence. Here is a list of some of those:

• Two-wheeler licence (for vehicles with less than 50cc engine displacement)
• Light motor vehicle licence (for geared motorcycles with engine displacement of over 50cc)
• Light motor vehicle licence (non-transport and commercial purposes)
• Heavy goods motor vehicle licence
• Heavy trailer licence

Kaushambi RTO provides 2 types of vehicle registration:

1. Permanent Registration

2. Temporary Registration

Carrying a hard copy or soft copy of this document is mandatory while driving.

Registration of a vehicle in Kaushambi involves many types of charges. Here is some of them: 

• Registration charges: ₹600 (for all cars)
• Temporary registration charges: ₹1200 - ₹1500 (valid up to 1 month)
• Hypothecation charges: ₹1500 (for cars purchased on a loan)
• FasTag charges: ₹600
• Number plate charges: ₹230 - ₹400 

Kaushambi road tax calculation system is analogous to UP road tax calculation system. Here is a list that displays the range:

• Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of their cost (priced below ₹0.20 to above ₹2 lakh) 
• Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of their cost (priced between ₹6 lakh to ₹20 lakh) 
• Commercial vehicles: ₹665 to ₹3320 and ₹470 per ton (for loading capacity below 1 ton to above 10 tons)

Here is a short list of traffic violation fines and penalties that can result due to breaking traffic rules in Kaushambi. 

• Rash driving and jumping red light: ₹1000 - ₹5000 and/or 6 – 12 months jail time
• Blowing horn in silent zones: ₹2000 (first time), ₹4000 (second time)
• Violating road regulation: ₹500 - ₹1000
• Overloading the vehicle: ₹20000
• Driving without a seat belt: ₹1000

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, it is mandatory to have a motor insurance of one’s vehicle while he or she is driving a vehicle on public roads of Kaushambi. This insurance covers legal liabilities that can arise due to accidents where third party property is damaged or a third person is injured.

Not having this insurance can mean ₹1000 fine, up to 3 months of imprisonment and suspension of driving licence and registration certificate.

According to a report on 15^th December 2022, on the Lucknow-Kaushambi road a Dala truck with heavy load collided with a Bolero car and overturned below a 15 feet deep ditch. The collision however, rendered 2 women travelling in the car dead on the spot and many injured.

Furthermore, a 4^th January 2023 report, in Kaushambi a car hit a student on a bicycle accidentally trapping the bicycle and the student with it and dragged both for 200 metres which resulted in severe injuries for the girl student.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has proposed a state-wide road safety awareness drive that will continue for a month starting from 5^th January.

Apart from increasing awareness regarding traffic rules and regulation it also aimed at preventing things like overloading, over speeding, etc. and making corrections to parking systems, road engineering, etc.
