RTO Shahjahanpur

The British government established Shahjahanpur in 1813. This city is a part of the Bareilly division in Uttar Pradesh. Just like other RTOs in Uttar Pradesh, it is known by a unique code, UP-27.

There are multiple functions of the Regional Transport Office in Shahjahanpur. Here is a list of a few of them.

In Shahjahanpur, the RTO issues different types of driving licences, which include:

• Learners’ Licence
• Permanent Licence
• Commercial Driving Licence
• International Driving Permit

There are two types of vehicle registration one can get from Shahjahanpur RTO.

• Permanent Registration

• Temporary Registration

Once the vehicle registration is complete, the vehicle owner will get a registration number. This must be displayed on the number plate of the vehicle.

A uniform vehicle registration charge is applicable in all the cities of Uttar Pradesh, including Shahjahanpur.

• Registration Charges: ₹600 for all cars, irrespective of their cost

• Temporary Registration: ₹1500-₹2000, with a validity of one month

• Charges for Number Plate: ₹230 TO ₹400

• State Development Charges / Parking Fee: ₹2000 for cars under ₹4 Lakhs, ₹4000 for cars above ₹4 Lakhs (only applicable in some states/UT)

• Road Tax: 8% (for cars under ₹10 Lakhs), 10% (for cars above ₹10 Lakhs)

• FasTag: ₹600

• Hypothecation Charges: ₹1500 (if the vehicle is bought on loan)

Shahjahanpur RTO collects a consistent tax as per the Uttar Pradesh road tax.These taxes help develop the roadways and their infrastructure. If this tax is not paid in time, you must pay 4% of the unpaid tax each month.

• For Two-wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle’s value

• For Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the vehicle’s value

• For Commercial vehicles: ₹665 to ₹3320, depending on the loading capacity 

If any individual does not follow traffic rules in Shahjahanpur, they are liable to pay specific traffic fines for their violations. The following violations are quite common. Check the amount one has to pay in case of disobeying them. Kindly note these are the updated list of traffic fines in India, applicable throughout the country.

• Driving a car or bike without a licence: ₹5,000 and/or community service

• Driving without a seatbelt: ₹1,000 and/or community service

• Riding without a helmet: ₹1000, and/or licence disqualification, community service for three months

• Disobeying road regulations: ₹500- ₹1000

• Speeding: ₹5,000 and/or three months prison, community service, ₹10,000 for subsequent violation and up to 1 year in prison, community service

• Overloading two-wheelers: ₹2,000 and licence disqualification and/or three months of community service

• Offering bribes: Twice the penalty already levied (varies according to traffic rules violated)

• Using a horn in a silent zone: ₹2,000, ₹4,000 for a subsequent offence

As per the Motor Vehicle Act, it is mandatory to have motor insurance when driving in Shahjahanpur or any other city in India. If anyone fails to have car insurance, they might have to face several consequences. This includes suspension of licence and vehicle registration, legal punishment, lack of financial protection, and paying a huge fine.

Recently a local newspaper covered a serious road accident in Shahjahanpur. Three students were severely injured in a bike accident while going to school for an exam. A car came at high speed and collided with the bike. This accident was reported at Mirzapur Police Station, Shahjahanpur. 

Another incident that caught the eyes of people in Shahjahanpur was when a delivery person died in a car accident. Reportedly a woman who hit this man was learning to drive. As per a local newspaper, this incident is not yet reported to any police station.

In order to reinforce traffic protocols and raise road safety awareness, the UP Transport Department is conducting a state wise road-safety campaign. This campaign will also be conducted in Shahjahanpur. 

This campaign will have several stages. This includes:

• Adding traffic protocols to the school curriculum

• Constructing road safety-related murals on the school walls

• PWD is working on the improvement of road designs to make accident-prone zones safe

• Installing signboards with phone numbers of transport officials and police to report any accident

• Setting off 19 mobile vans with LED screens to raise road safety awareness

• Installing hoardings with safety rules near prominent bus depots and government offices
