RTO Lalitpur

Lalitpur, also known as the ‘city of fine arts’, is the primary administrative hub of the Jhansi division in Uttar Pradesh. It has gained popularity as a tourist destination, mainly because of a small village called Deogarh. Here, the RTO code is UP-94. This regulatory body is functional during specific hours on the weekdays. You may reach out to the officials to fulfil a variety of tasks related to vehicle registration and other requirements.

RTO Lalitpur executes the following tasks:

• Road tax collection
• Issues permanent licence and learner’s licence
• Imposes fines on drivers breaking traffic rules
• Regulates motor driving schools
• Tracks the status of vehicle registration certificates
• Checks the validity of PUC certificates
• Issues duplicate licence and registration certificate when the original is lost
• Spreads awareness regarding rules per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and controls traffic movement per these revised rules

Lalitpur’s local RTO body is authorised to issue two kinds of vehicle registration certificates:

1. Permanent registration

2. Temporary registration

Once your registration process gets completed, you receive SMS verification on your registered mobile number. Meanwhile, a number plate is issued by the RTO authorities with the unique registration number printed on it.

Abiding by the rule 55A of the Motor Vehicles Act, Lalitpur RTO has set the following registration fees:

• Renewal or issuance of a trade certificate for commercial vehicles: ₹500 - ₹1,000
• For temporary registration: ₹1,200 - ₹1,500 (valid up to one month)
• For permanent registration (irrespective of the vehicle type): ₹600
• For personal registration: ₹1,500

• For Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of the cost of the car
• For Commercial Vehicles: Starts from ₹665 (depends on the loading capacity)

Violating the traffic rules will put hefty monetary liabilities on you. Moreover, in the worst situations, you may even have to serve imprisonment, or the authorities can seize your driving licence and vehicle RC book. Here you can find some common fine categories as stated by the traffic police authorities of Lalitpur city:

• Overspeeding: ₹1,000 - ₹2,000 for LMVs, along with licence seizure
• Driving Without Seat Belt: ₹1,000 or community service
• Dangerous Driving: ₹1,000 - ₹5,000 plus 6 months of imprisonment
• Racing: ₹5,000 plus 3 months of imprisonment and/ or community service for violating the rules the first time
• Juvenile Offences: ₹25,000 with 3 years imprisonment

Similar to other parts of India, it is mandatory to have a motor vehicle insurance to drive/ ride legally in Lalitpur. If any police officer catches you driving without a valid copy of an insurance policy, they will charge you ₹2,000 for the first time. From the subsequent cases, you will be liable to pay ₹4,000 and also may need to serve imprisonment for 3 months.

A recent report shows that flyover construction activities near the Gwarko Chowk in Lalitpur lead to horrendous traffic jams now and then. To tackle such grave road situations, the UP police are taking more strict actions and stressing the importance of having frequent road safety campaigns.

The Lalitpur RTO actively participated in UP's road safety drive recently held between January 5 and February 4, 2023. It was a mass movement coordinated by multiple departments of the government and hundreds of public representatives. The program talked about ways of resolving issues arising out of:
