RTO Barabanki

Barabanki is the administrative headquarter and municipal board of the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh which is about 30 km from Lucknow. The principal source of income in Barabanki is farming. The principal crops in Barabanki are rice, wheat, pulse and other food grains and sugarcane. Smooth transportation is very important to supply the crops from fields to the markets.

In Barabanki, the RTO office primarily serves various functions under its Transport Commissioner. The functions are as follows:

• Issue and carry vehicle rc renewal
• Issue and renew a driving licence
• Collect motor vehicle taxes
• Undertake measures to control pollution
• Issue vehicle fitness certificate
• Issue tourist and  motor vehicle permits
• Provide international driving permits

The Barabanki RTO offers several types of driving licences to vehicle owners to authorise their driving under the supervision of the Motor Vehicle Act. The types of licences are:

• Motorcycles licence for engine capacity of 50cc or less
• Light motor vehicle licence for engine capacity over 50cc
• Motorcycle licence for any cc without gears
• Light motor vehicle licence (for non-transport purposes)
• Light motor vehicle licence (for commercial purposes)
• Motor vehicle licence for heavy passenger
• Heavy goods vehicle licence
• Heavy trailer licence (who have a heavy vehicle licence)

Barabanki RTO provides 2 types of vehicle registration certificates for vehicle owners. These are:

1. Permanent Registration

2. Temporary Registration

After successful registration, the RTO officials of Barabanki verify the documents and provide a unique registration number to the vehicle owners displayed on their number plates.

During the registration process, RTO officials of Barabanki will charge fees depending on the vehicle and the purpose of their usage. These include:

• Light Motor Vehicles/Four-Wheeler/Cars: ₹600 (Non-Transport)

• Imported Motor Vehicle (Bikes and Cars): ₹2500 - ₹5000
• Three-Wheeler: ₹600 - ₹1000 (Non-Transport)
• Quadricycle: ₹600 - ₹1000 (Non-Transport)
• Four-Wheeler/ Light Motor Vehicles/Cars: ₹1000 (Transport)
• Smart Card: ₹200
• Other Registration Fees: ₹3000

Barabanki RTO collects the taxes as per the set standards of UP road tax from its residents to raise the maintenance and construction expenses of roadways. These taxes are based on the vehicle categories and their market value. These are:

• Two-Wheelers: 2% to 8% of the vehicle’s price
• Four-Wheelers: 3% to 9% of the vehicle’s price
• Commercial Vehicles (loading below 1 ton to 10 tons): ₹665 to ₹3320
• Commercial Vehicles (loading above 10 tons): ₹3320 + ₹470 per ton

If someone breaks the laws of traffic rules, the offence will attract traffic fines in Barabanki according to the Indian Road Rules. Some of the traffic fines include:

• Drunk driving: ₹10000 and/or 6 months imprisonment
• Blocking emergency vehicles: ₹10000
• Aggregators without a driving licence: ₹5000
• Driving/Riding despite disqualification: ₹10000
• Juvenile driving: ₹25000 + 3 years of imprisonment
• Driving/Riding without a licence: ₹5000 and/or community service
• Signal jumping: ₹1000 to ₹5000 with licence scrapping and/or 6 months to 1 year of imprisonment
• Driving without a helmet: ₹1000 along with 3 months of licence seizure
• Driving or riding without a permit: Up to ₹10000
• Unauthorised oversized vehicles: ₹5000 to ₹10000 and/or community service 

Yes, it is mandatory to have a motor insurance while driving on the streets of Barabanki. Otherwise, the Barabanki RTO officials will penalise the vehicle owner with a fine of ₹2000 for the first offence and ₹4000 for the repetition of the same offence according to the Indian Road Rules.

According to a news report, the Barabanki transport department is looking for the intervention of higher authorities for the growing problem of roadblocks and congestion in various areas surrounding Barabanki.

As per the 2022 report, they were also hoping to ease traffic jams on Lucknow-Barabanki, Lucknow-Sitapur and Lucknow-Kanpur routes by restricting heavy vehicles in adjoining districts and making parking spaces on highways.

Road accidents are another big problem in Barabanki along with traffic congestion due to not maintaining traffic rules. As a report suggests, a speeding truck hit a bus of migrant workers from behind near Mahangupur at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

Barabanki witnessed a great road safety campaign of awareness on the occasion of the birth ceremony of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose where people were made to take an oath to maintain the traffic rules.

Another report suggests, a software engineer Anshu Singh came with an appearance of Yamraj on the streets of Barabanki to make the public aware of the traffic rules in a funny way. Those who were following traffic rules were honoured with flowers and some were drawn challans for violating traffic rules.
