Whether you need a new passport, a renewal, or the faster tatkal service, you need to pay different fees for each process. Knowing these passport fees can help you during the passport application process.

The normal passport is the most common in India. It's issued to Indian citizens who want to travel abroad for education, business, travel, or other personal reasons. The passport is navy blue and can have 36 or 60 pages. Adults can use it for 10 years, but minors can only use it for 5 years or until they turn 18.
The Indian government offers a fast-track service called the tatkal passport service for urgent applications. This passport is designed to help people with emergency travel plans for work or medical reasons. It is available for both fresh passport applications and passport renewals.

If you want to apply for a new passport or re-issue, here is the passport fees:
If your passport will expire in the next 3 years or has already expired at least 3 years ago, you should re-issue it.
Re-issue your passport if your current one is significantly damaged or disfigured.

If you apply for a new passport under the tatkal scheme, you must pay additional tatkal passport fees in addition to the regular application fees.
There is a 10% discount on passport fees for fresh applications (not for re-issues) for minors up to 8 years old and senior citizens (60 years or older).
When applying for an Indian passport, you'll need to consider various fees and charges in addition to the standard application fee.
Police Verification Charges | ₹500 is an additional charge for police verification, covering the verification of the applicant's address, which is mandatory for all passport applicants. |

Here are the details on how to calculate passport fees in India. The Passport Seva website offers three calculators to help applicants determine the fees for various categories, such as:

As mentioned earlier, passport fees differ for each passport type and service. Therefore, you can use the passport fee calculator on Passport Seva's official website. Follow the simple steps:
Go to the official Passport Seva Online Portal.
After visiting the official page, go to the "Information Corner" section and click on the "Fee Calculator."
On the fee calculator page, click on the “Select Application Type” option and choose the “Passport” option from the drop down menu.
Select the “Type of Service”. You can choose from the following options:
Fresh
Re-issue
Select your age from the drop down menu:
Less Than 15 Years
18 Years And Above
Between 15-18 Years
Select the number of pages in a booklet, such as a 36-page or a 60-page booklet. If you travel frequently, we recommend the 60-page booklet. Choose either the Normal or tatkal scheme. Applicants opting for tatkal can expedite their application, but the fees are higher.

Here are the steps to opt for a surrender certificate in India:
Go to the official Passport Seva Online Portal and click "Fee Calculator".
Select the application type as "Surrender Certificate" and select the option “Foreign nationality acquired before 1st June 2010 or Foreign nationality acquired on or after 1st June 2010”.
Select the type of service you need, such as "Fresh" or "Reissued." If you are reissuing, select the reason.
Click on “Calculate Fee''. This saves time and gives accurate results on the applicable passport renewal fees in India or charges to issue a new passport.
Note: The fee for both of these documents is ₹500.
Here is how to pay for passport renewal online through the online and offline passport process. However, according to the new rule, online payment of passport fees is now mandatory to schedule an appointment at all Passport Seva Kendras.
The steps for paying passport fees online are as follows:
Visit the official Passport Seva website or log in using your existing user account.
Fill out the application accurately and submit the application.
Click on “Pay and Schedule Appointment” and choose the “Online Payment” option.
You can pay the fees using a Credit Card, Debit Card, or Internet Banking.
Visit the nearest Passport Seva Kendra to submit all the required documents.
The steps for paying passport fees offline are as follows:
Visit the official website to download or collect the form from the nearest Passport Seva Kendra.
Fill out the form with accurate and required details.
Submit the form to the nearest Passport Seva Kendra with all the required documents.
Pay the passport fee through a Demand Draft (DD) at the counter.
You will receive an acknowledgement letter containing a file number which will help you track your passport status.
When applying for a passport in India, you can pay the fees online or offline through the following payment modes..
Here are the following ways you can pay passport fees or passport renewal fee online:
Internet banking: Major banks in India, including the State Bank of India (SBI) and other approved banks, offer Internet banking for paying passport fees.
Credit or Debit cards: Visa and Mastercard are accepted for online passport fee payment, but banks charge an additional 1.5% plus a service fee for card transactions.
Wallet Payment: Some online passport services accept payment through digital wallets such as PhonePe, GPay, etc.
As an applicant, you only need to pay a regular passport fee while paying online. However, once your application for a passport under the tatkal scheme is accepted, you must pay the tatkal fees in cash at Passport Seva Kendra or Passport Office.
In India, there are several options available for paying passport fees offline.
State Bank of India Challan: Get a bank challan from the Passport Seva website, go to the State Bank of India branch, pay the fees at the bank, and keep the receipt for your records.
Demand Draft (DD): Get a bank draft from any bank payable to the passport officer for the specified amount. Then, submit the bank draft and your passport application to Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or the Regional Passport Office (RPO).
Keep the following pointers in mind while paying passport application fees in India:
Fees Payment | When booking appointments at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs), you can make an online payment using credit/debit cards (MasterCard and Visa) or internet banking. If applying under the tatkal category, pay the fee online and the remaining tatkal fee in cash at the PSK/Passport Office. |
Refund or Transfer | There are no refunds for unbooked appointments after payment. You cannot transfer payments between different Application Reference Numbers (ARNs). The Regional Passport Office will refund any excess amount for multiple payments. |
Validity of Payment | Online payments remain valid for one year from the payment date. The validity extends to one year from the first appointment date for bookings. |
Proof of Appointment | You no longer need a printed ARN for your appointment at PSK/POPSK. An SMS with your appointment details is sufficient proof. |
