RTO Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur is the first planned industrial city of India, also known as Steel City or Tatanagar. Being an industrially advanced city, it houses a huge number of residents, making it the most populous city of Jharkhand. 

This city has one RTO (JH-05) for maintaining traffic throughout the city. It monitors every registered vehicle in the city and maintains the regulations enforced in the Motor Vehicles Act (1988).

Jamshedpur RTO conducts the following functions for its residents according to the rules mentioned in the Motor Vehicle Act.

• Issuing and carrying vehicle RC renewal

• Issuing a PUC certificate

• Issuing a learner’s permit

• Transferring ownership of a vehicle

• Issuing tourist and motor vehicle permit

• Collecting road taxes

• Issuing and approving renew driving licence request

Jamshedpur RTO officials provide 2 types of vehicle registration to the people. These include:

• Permanent Registration

• Temporary Registration

The vehicle registration process involves certain charges. Here is a list of charges regarding vehicle registration:

• Number Plate (same for HSRP Number Plate) Charges: ₹230 to ₹400

• Temporary Registration Charges (for up to 1 month): ₹1200 to ₹1500

• Registration Charges: ₹600

• Hypothecation Charges (if purchased on a loan): ₹1500

• Parking Fees or State Development Charges: ₹2000 (MCD Parking Fees for cars under ₹4 Lakh) to ₹4000 (MCD Parking Fees for cars above ₹4 Lakh)

• FasTag Charges: ₹600

The RTO of Jamshedpur accumulates taxes for the maintenance of road conditions. Jamshedpur RTO follows the Jharkhand road tax standards. These include:

Two-Wheelers:

• First registration or up to 1 year of age: 6% of the vehicle's cost excluding GST

• Between 1 year to 3 years: 95% to 90% (tax paid at the time of registration)

• Between 4 years to 6 years: 85% to 75% (tax paid at the time of registration)

• Within 7 years to 10 years: 70% to 55% (tax paid at the time of registration)

• Above 10 years: 50% (tax paid at the time of registration)    

Four-Wheelers:

• First registration or up to 1 year of age: 6% of the vehicle's cost excluding GST (additional 3% tax if it is a second car, 15% tax for vehicles above ₹15 Lakhs excluding GST)

• Between 1 year to 5 years: 95% to 80% (tax paid at the time of registration)

• Between 5 years to 10 years: 75% to 55% (tax paid at the time of registration)

• Above 10 years: 50% (tax paid at the time of registration)

Every citizen of India is subject to paying traffic fines for violating traffic rules. In this regard, the traffic fines of Jamshedpur include:

• Rash driving: ₹1000 to ₹5000 + licence seizure and/or 6 months to 1 year in prison

• Riding without a valid permit: Up to ₹10000 and/or up to 6 months prison + community service

• Driving/riding without a valid licence: ₹5000 and/or community service

• Signal Jumping: ₹1000 to ₹5000 + licence seizure and/or 6 months to 1 year in prison

• Racing on roads: ₹5000 and/or 3 months in prison and ₹10,000 for repetitive violation and up to 1 year in prison

• Blocking emergency vehicles: ₹10000

• Violation of aggregators' licencing conditions: ₹25000 to ₹1 lakh

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance, at least a third-party insurance or comprehensive insurance while driving on the road in Jamshedpur. Violation of this rule will attract a penalty of ₹2000 for not carrying an insurance policy for the first time and ₹4000 for the subsequent offence.

A recent report confirms Vijaya Jadhav, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner, ordered the Traffic Police Department to suspend driving licences of riders driving without helmets. Their primary objective is to reduce road accidents in Steel City. 

Another recent report suggests Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid foundation stones for nine projects in Jamshedpur. These projects will improve Delhi-Kolkata and Mumbai-Kolkata connectivity via Jamshedpur and lead commercial development in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. The entire project has an estimated investment of ₹3378 crore.

According to recent news, the East Singhbhum District Transport Office (DTO) will organise road safety campaigns in schools with the Police Department. This programme generates awareness among students about the increased number of accidents in the city.

Another news report confirms the Jharkhand Transport Department has declared a video-making contest as part of a road safety campaign. It is expected to sensitise the public and spread awareness of traffic rules to curb road accidents.

Additonally, a report confirms that Tata Steel also launched the 34th National Road Safety Month Campaign between 16th January and 15th February.
