RTO Satara

Satara is situated in the district of Satara in Maharashtra. It is situated at the foot of the famous Ajinkyatara Fort. This city is surrounded by seven hills and is important for its jaggery production. The roads going through this city are important for trading and transporting goods to maintain the city's economy. 

There is one regional transport office (RTO) in Satara, with code MH 11, that ensures smooth transportation and road safety.

The RTO in Satara was created to perform the following functions:

• Issues driver and learner’s licence.

• Registers new vehicles and provides vehicle registration certificates.

• Issues various types of vehicle permits.

• Conducts fitness tests and driving tests for issuing driving licences and fitness certificates.

• Ensures rapid growth and development of road transportation.

• Spreads awareness about road safety.

• Ensures proper enforcement and implementation of provisions of the Motor Vehicles ACT of 1988.

• Transfers vehicle ownership.

Satara RTO issues the following types of driving Licence:

• Licence for LMV

• Licence for heavy commercial vehicles

• Licence for two-wheelers with and without gears

• Motor vehicles with a 50 cc engine capacity or even less than that. 

RTO Satara provides two types of vehicle registration:

• Temporary registration

• Permanent registration

The registration charges are different for various types of vehicles. Below is the list of the registration charges for a few vehicles:

• Two-wheelers Including Scooters - ₹50

• Three-wheelers and Four-wheelers for Private Use - ₹600

• Three-wheelers and Four-wheelers for Commercial Use - ₹1000

• Heavy Passenger Vehicle - ₹1000

• Heavy Goods Vehicle - ₹1500

• Medium Passenger Vehicle - ₹1000

• Medium Good vehicle - ₹1000

• Other Vehicles – ₹3000

RTO offices in Satara collect road taxes as per the standards of Maharashtra Road Tax. It is collected at the time of registration or when it is transferred and registered under a new RTO:

• Road tax on Two-wheelers: 10%-13% of vehicle cost subject to a minimum cost of ₹1500.

• Road tax on Four-wheelers: 7%-15% of vehicle cost ranging from 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs.

If you do not follow the traffic rules, you will have to pay fines to the government of Maharashtra.

Following is the list of fines for the most common traffic rules violations:

• Over Speeding: ₹1000 - ₹4000

• Driving While Using Mobile: ₹5000

• Improper Use of Horns in Silent Zones: ₹5000 for first-time offenders and ₹4000 for repeating the same offence.

• Driving Under Influence: ₹1000 or 6 years imprisonment

• Driving Without Seatbelt: ₹1000 or community service

• Driving Without Licence: ₹5000 or community service

In India,It is mandatory to have motor insurance. Third-party insurance is a must, and if you do not insure your car, you will have to pay ₹2000 as a fine for the first time. If you repeat the same offence, you will have to pay ₹4000 as a fine.

• Two women were killed with six people injured in a car accident in Satara. According to the police, the accident took place because the driver lost control and crashed. 

• In the same year, three were killed in a horrific car crash. The four-wheeler driver lost control and crashed, killing the passengers.

• Motorcycle Rally

Satara RTO arranged a motorcycle rally to spread road safety awareness. This rally aimed to educate people about the necessity and importance of wearing helmets.

• iRAD (Integrated Road Accident Database)

This is an initiative of the ministry of road transport and highways to deal with accidents efficiently and effectively and to prevent accidents in a well-organised manner.
