The airport is located south of Port Blair, around 5 kilometres from the city centre and is the only international airport in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It started its international operations in 2007 and was known as Port Blair Airport.

It operates both aeroplanes and helicopters of the Navy and Coast Guard. Furthermore, it also operates courier duties between Port Blair and Diglipur every Thursday.
