To maintain a hassle-free traffic flow across the city, the Government of Punjab has established two Road Transport Offices in Mohali under the code PB-65 and PB-27.

• Then, pay the temporary registration fee.
• Then, you will receive a temporary registration certificate valid for a specified period.

Road tax is a mandatory fee that every vehicle owner must pay to use roads constructed for the public by the government. In Mohali, the road tax is collected by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), just like in other parts of India. 

For Two-Wheelers

• 10% of the price for new vehicles that cost less than ₹50,000
• 12% of the price for the new vehicles that cost more than ₹50,000
• 4% of the cost of electric vehicles
• 73%-93% for vehicles less than 5 years old
• 49%-69% for vehicles about 5-10 years old
• 45%-25% for vehicles about 10-15 years old

For Four-Wheelers

• 13% of the price for new vehicles that cost less than ₹5 Lakh
• 14% of the price for new vehicles that cost about ₹5 - ₹10 Lakh
• 17% of the price for new vehicles that cost about ₹10 - ₹20 Lakh
• 18% of the price for new vehicles that cost more than ₹20 Lakh
• 4% of the price for electric vehicles
• 75% - 93% for vehicles less than five years old
• 49%-69% for vehicles 5-10 years old

Yes. It is mandatory to have car insurance when driving a vehicle in Mohali. In the case of driving without third-party insurance, vehicle owners have to pay a fine of ₹2000 for the first time and ₹4000 for repeated offences.

To register a new or pre-owned vehicle in Mohali RTO, you must submit a series of documents. To save you from all the hassles, we’ve listed all the documents that you need to submit.

1. Form 20

This is one of the major forms of vehicle registration. It must be filled out and include the chassis and engine number.e owner, and other relevant particulars.

2. Sale Certificate (Form 21)

This form refers to the sale certificate issued by the vehicle dealer.

3. Roadworthiness Certificate Form 22

The manufacturer issues this form to guarantee the vehicle's roadworthiness.

4. Vehicle Insurance Certificate

An attested copy of the vehicle’s insurance copy or cover note.

5. Proof of Address

Any government-registered ID that contains your valid proof of home address where the vehicle needs to be registered.

6. Form 34

This form is required only if the vehicle is under lease or hire purchase and needs to be signed by both the owner and the financer.

7. PUC Certificate

This certificate is needed to analyse if the vehicle meets the required emission standard.

8. Customs Clearance Certificate

Customs clearance certificate is required only if the vehicle is imported.

9. PAN Card

This is required for tax purposes. If you don’t have one, you can submit forms 60 and 61.

10. Dealer/Manufacturer Invoice

An invoice of the purchase provided by the dealer or manufacturer.

11. Passport-sized Photographs

A recent photograph of the individual purchasing the vehicle.

12. One-time Road Tax

This tax must be paid at the time of registration.

13. Registration Fee

Every vehicle owner must pay the registration fee, as specified by the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
