RTO Diu

Diu is currently India's tenth least populated place that offers a bunch of tourist places to explore. Apart from the tourist attractions, Diu City is blessed with an outstanding coastline which lures tourists from around the world. 

The RTO code of Diu is DDO2, and it carries out all the responsibilities and functions to establish better traffic rules as per the Motor Vehicles Act.

The functions of Diu RTO include the following:

• Transfer Vehicle Ownership

• Furnish and renew driving licence

• Issue and Renew RC 

• Collect Motor Vehicle Tax

• Register new vehicles

• Issue duplicate vehicle registration certificate

• Initiate vehicle registration transfer

• Provide NOC for vehicles in another state

• Issue national, tourist and international permit

RTO Diu issues different types of driving licence which are as follows:

• Driving Licence for 2-Wheeler Without Gear

• Driving Licence for Light Motor Vehicle (LMV)

• Driving Licence for Transport Vehicles

There are two types of vehicle registrations vehicle owners can get from Diu City. It includes:

• Permanent Registration

• Temporary Registration

In Diu, the registration certificate of a non-transport vehicle is valid for about 15 years. After this period, you must register your vehicle after every five years.

The road tax in Daman and Diu is imposed under the Directorate of Transport of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. Below are the details of the road tax in Diu:

Green Tax:

• Non-transport vehicles completing 15 years from the date of registration: 

  • Two-wheeler: ₹250 per five years
  • Other than two-wheelers: ₹500 per five years. 

• Transport vehicles completing 15 years from the date of registration:

  • Motorcycle: ₹200 per annum
  • Auto-rickshaw (goods and passenger): ₹300 per annum
  • Motor cab and maxi cab: ₹400 per annum
  • Light commercial vehicles (goods and passenger): ₹500 per annum
  • Medium commercial vehicles (goods and passenger): ₹600 per annum
  • Heavy Vehicles (goods and passenger): ₹1000 per annum

The updated list of traffic fines for violating road and traffic rules in Diu is as follows:

• Driving Without Wearing a Seat Belt: ₹1000 

• Triple Riding on Two-wheeler Vehicle: ₹1000

• Driving Without a Helmet: ₹1000

• Driving Without a Valid Driving Licence: ₹5000 

• Minors Driving Vehicle: ₹25000

• Violating Road Regulations: ₹1000

• Overspeeding: LMV: ₹1000 and for MPV/HPV: ₹2000

• Not Providing a Way for Emergency Vehicles: ₹10000

As per the Motor Vehicle Act, it is mandatory to have motor insurance when driving on the roads of Diu. Failing to provide valid car insurance leads to payment of a fine of ₹5000. 

As per recent news, a serious accident occurred in Diu as a drunk driver rammed a car into the airport gate.  A youth in the car died in the accident, and the locals took the injured to hospital. Police registered a drunk-and-drive case and took legal action against the driver.

As per last year's news, a campaign called ROSE (Road Safety Enforcement) was held at Kala Kendra in Silvassa, the largest city of Daman and Diu to educate people about road safety.
