Functions of RTO Offices in Hyderabad

Nationwide, the functions of RTO office remains the same as under the MV Act, 1988. Mentioned below are the functions of RTO Hyderabad:

  • Issuance of different types of driving licence like a learner, permanent, renewal, duplicate, additions of class licence and international driving permit, etc.
  • Registration certificate and its related services, namely Trade Certificate, Temporary Registration, Permanent Registration, Renewal, Duplicate, Ownership Transfer,
  • Permits that includes Issuance of permits, renewal of permits and issuance of duplicate permits to Auto rickshaw, Motor Cab, Luxury Cabs, among others
  • Collection of Quarterly Tax, Life Time Tax, Green Tax, Countersignature Tax, Short Term Tax, Composite Tax, Border Tax and looking into Tax Exemptions
  • Issuance of fitness certificates to commercial and personal vehicles
  • Collecting fees and penalties

Types of Driving Licence issued in RTO Hyderabad

The RTO Hyderabad issues DL and permits for broadly six types of vehicles listed hereunder:

  • Motorcycle with an engine capacity of up-to 50cc: Applicant must be 16 or above years of age and should have the consent of his guardian or parents along with the required documents
  • Motorcycles with gear: Applicant must be 18 years of age or above with valid required documents. These are Light Motor Vehicles used for private, commercial or transport.
  • Two-wheelers without gear: Issued for mopeds or two-wheelers without gear
  • Heavy commercial vehicle: Applicant must be 8th standard qualified and over or equal to 18 years of age with driving training certificate from registered school under state government
  • Driving Licence for road rollers, trailers, dozers, cranes, among others
  • Personal Four-wheeler: Applicant must be 18 years of age or above with valid required documents
  • Commercial Four wheeler: Applicant must be 8th standard qualified and over or equal to 18 years of age with proper driving/ training certificate 

 

Note: Cab and Auto Rickshaw drivers do not need a separate commercial driving licence to operate. Their personal LMV licence is enough to fulfil the legal mandates.

Types of Vehicle Registration in RTO Hyderabad

The two types of vehicle registration offered in RTO Hyderabad are:

  • Temporary Vehicle Registration: Issued by the vehicle dealer at the sale of any new vehicle to the customer with a validity of 7 days, extension permissible up to one month
  • Permanent Vehicle Registration: Issued by RTO and serves as permanent registration certificate

Road Tax in Hyderabad

Road tax for vehicles in Hyderabad depends on the age of the vehicle. Here is a list of the vehicle Telangana road tax applicable in Hyderabad:

  • Newly Registered Two-Wheeler Road Tax: 9% of the vehicle’s valuation

  • Old Two-Wheeler Road Tax (Depending Upon Age): 1% to 8% of the vehicle’s valuation

  • Newly Registered Four-Wheeler Road Tax: 12% of the valuation for cars within ₹10 lakhs and 14% of the valuation for cars more than ₹10 lakhs

  • Old Two-Wheeler Road Tax (Depending Upon the Age and the Price of the Vehicle): 5.5% to 13% of the vehicle’s valuation

Yes, it is mandatory to have motor insurance while driving any motor vehicle insurance. If your comprehensive insurance has expired, you should at least have third-party insurance. Driving without valid vehicle insurance can lead to hefty fines. You will have to pay ₹1000 as a fine if you are unable to produce insurance.

Recent Traffic Events in Hyderabad

According to a recent report, traffic movement at the NTR Marg and Hussain Sagar Lake was restricted due to the inauguration of the new State Secretariat in Hyderabad. Many routes were blocked and diverted in the city to avoid congestion on a particular road.
