When it comes to most recognised luxury carmakers, BMW is on the top of the list. In 1923, the German automaker started trying its engineering skills to produce various two-wheelers, including Street, Touring, Roadsters models. These bikes are equipped with best-in-class features, comfortable riding ergonomics, sleek and stylish appeal, sturdy build quality and optimal handling characteristics.

If you are interested in buying any models, consider obtaining a BMW two-wheeler insurance policy to safeguard your finances from possible repair/replacement expenses.

Besides, the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 clearly stated that every two-wheeler owner must secure a motorcycle insurance policy to remain legal on Indian roads.

What’s Covered in BMW Bike Insurance

What’s not Covered

It is equally important to know what’s not covered in your two-wheeler insurance policy, so that there are no surprises when you make a claim. Here are some such situations:

Own Damages for Third-Party Policy holder

In the case of a Third-Party or Liability Only Bike Policy, damages to own vehicle won’t be covered.

Drunk Riding or without a Licence

Your bike insurance won’t cover for you in situations where you were riding drunk or without a valid two-wheeler licence.

Driving without a valid Driving Licence holder

If you hold a learner’s licence and were riding your two-wheeler without a valid licence-holder on the pillion seat- then your claim in those situations won’t be covered.

Consequential Damages

Any damage which is not a direct result of the accident (e.g. after an accident, if the damaged two-wheeler is being used incorrectly and the engine gets damaged, it will not be covered)

Contributory Negligences

Any contributory negligence(e.g. damage due to driving a two-wheeler in a flood, which is not recommended as per the manufacturer’s driving manual, will not be covered)

Add-ons not Bought

Some situations are covered in add-ons. If you haven’t bought those add-ons, the corresponding situations will not be covered.

A Brief History of BMW Motorcycle

BMW motorcycles are relatively expensive to its equivalent models as the brand identity is ingrained with exclusivity and state-of-the-art refinements. The models feature up-to-date innovations and top-quality components to confirm optimum safety, comfort and convenience. The first BMW Motorrad exhibited a flat-twin boxer engine which the company still equips in the bikes. Apart from these, other notable features include

  • Cruise Control
  • Side View Assist (blind-spot warning indicator)
  • Multi-mated heated grips
  • On-Board Computer
  • TFT Color Screen
  • Navigation & Communication Systems

One of the contributing factors is the small-scale production that helps them to focus more on their engineering in the realms of suspension, engine, frame fabrication and technology. This accounts for high maintenance and routine repairs and replacements. Besides, the German bike manufacturer specialises in developing adventure, dual-sport, heritage cafes and sport models.

Therefore, it is wise to possess valid two-wheeler insurance for BMW to steer clear of hefty maintenance fees.

Why You Must Opt for BMW Bike Insurance Policies

Your insurance for BMW two-wheeler will help you stay away from possible repair/replacement costs within the policy terms. Besides, a valid insurance policy can be beneficial in several other ways. This includes-

  1. Own Damage Protection - In case your bike is damaged due to accident, flood, earthquake, theft, fire or any similar threat, your insurance company will compensate for the losses in the form of reimbursement against your insurance policy.

  1. Third-Party Coverage - The Motor Vehicles Act 1988 mandated a third-party policy for all automobiles in India. Under this coverage, you no longer have to bear the third-party damage expenses. That means, if your bike hits another property or vehicle, your insurer will pay for the damage. Even if you injure an individual, the insurance company will deal with the issue.

  1. No Legal Fines - Your two-wheeler insurance saves you from paying hefty penalties of ₹2,000 and ₹4,000. In simple words, if you fail to produce valid insurance documents, you attract lump sum fines. In fact, it is illegal and may result in driving license cancellation or jail for up to 3 months.

  1. Personal Accident Cover - According to the IRDAI, insurance companies provide PA cover to all policyholders. As per the guideline, insurers have to pay a compensation of ₹15 lakhs to the policyholder’s family members in case the latter dies or undergoes permanent or partial disability in an accident.

  1. No Claim Bonus - Insurance companies reward their customers with a No Claim Bonus on completing the claim-free year. So, if you do not raise any claim for an entire year, you will earn a bonus. This bonus acts as a discount on the policy premium.

Reputed insurance companies such as Digit offer 20% to 50% discounts on premiums based on the number of claim-free years. This makes Digit an ideal choice for BMW two-wheeler insurance.
