What Are the Different Modes of PAN Verification?

Applicants can verify their PAN card using their date of birth, Aadhaar number and PAN number. There are 6 different modes of PAN verification:

1. File-based PAN Card Verification

Large organisations generally carry out this type of verification. In this mode of verification, users can upload a maximum of 1000 PAN cards for verification at once. However, they must follow a specific file structure; otherwise, they will be rejected immediately.

Steps to Verify:

Step 1 - Visit the e-filling website of the Income Tax Department

Step 2 - Log in to your account

Step 3 - Upload the files in the specified format

Step 4 - Click on ‘Submit’

Step 5 - This method takes around 24 hours to display the results

Step 6 - The files may be rejected if they are not uploaded in the specific format

2. Screen-based PAN Card Verification

This verification process allows up to 5 PAN cards to be verified. Users can log in, add details of 5 PAN cards, and submit them.

Steps to Verify:

Step 1 - Visit the Income Tax Department’s e-filling website

Step 2 - Log in to your account

Step 3 - Provide the PAN number

Step 4 - Click on ‘Submit’

Step 5 - The PAN card details will be displayed on the screen

3. By using your Date of Birth:

Follow the below-mentioned steps for PAN card verification using your date of birth:

Step 1 - Login to your account from the Income Tax Department’s e-filling website

Step 2 - Click on ‘Verify your PAN’

Step 3 - Enter your PAN number, name and date of birth, enter the Captcha, then click on 'Submit'

Step 4 - Your PAN card details will be displayed on the screen

4. By using your Aadhaar Number:

Follow the below-mentioned steps for PAN card verification using an Aadhaar number:

Step 1 - Go to the e-filling portal of the Income Tax Department

Step 2 - From the ‘Quick Links’ section, click on ‘Link Aadhaar’

Step 3 - A new page will open

Step 4 - Select the ‘Click Here’ option to check the status of your PAN-Aadhaar link

Step 5 - You will be redirected to another page for PAN verification

Step 6 - Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number

Step 7 - Click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’

Step 8 - Your PAN card details will appear on the screen

5. By using your PAN Number:

Follow the below-mentioned steps for PAN card verification by PAN number:

Step 1 - Visit the Income Tax Department’s e-filling portal

Step 2 - Click on ‘Quick Links’ and select ‘Verify Your PAN’

Step 3 - Enter your PAN number, full name (according to PAN card), and date of birth and choose the applicable status

Step 4 - Enter the Captcha and click on 'Submit'

Step 5 - Once done, the screen will display your verified PAN details

6. Software-based (API) Verification

In this process, users must install software to verify PAN cards online by visiting the website.

How to Track Registration Status?

Applicants will receive an acknowledgement number during registration, and you can use this number to track their PAN card verification status.

When applications are accepted, a message is displayed on the screen stating the same. It also displays the status of registration along with the User Id.

If an application is rejected, a message will be displayed on the screen, which will state the same.
