What Is Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G)?

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana was introduced by the Central Government with the aim to resolve the housing gaps apparent in the rural areas and provide pucca houses. All the pucca houses will come equipped with basic amenities and a clean kitchen.

What Is the Objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin?

Through PM Awas Yojana Gramin, the Government aims to provide pucca houses to all the homeless people of a rural area or those living in kutcha houses or dilapidated houses by 2022. Initially, the immediate objective was to cover 1 crore households living in the kutcha houses or dilapidated houses in three years from 2016-2017 to 2018-2019. This scheme is granted ₹19,500 crores  (2020-21) under the Department of Rural Development and follows certain guidelines.

  • The Central Government will construct 1 crore houses by 2022.
  • This scheme follows specific guidelines for the construction of demonstration houses in different regions. The guidelines focus on designs, location, number of houses to be constructed, rural mason training, Project Implementation Agency (PIA), nominations of technical officers, documentation and many others.
  • PMAY G guidelines are available specifically for Rural Mason Training (RMT). What Are the Features and Benefits of PMAY-G?

  • Affordable and disaster-resilient pucca houses provided under PMAY G must have a minimum size of 25 sq. mt.
  • In providing cost-effective pucca houses, the State and Central Government shares the cost of a house in a 60:40 ratio in the plain areas and a 90:10 ratio in the elevated or hilly areas.
  • The financial assistance provided for each unit is ₹1.20 lakh and ₹1.30 lakh in plain and hilly areas, respectively.
  • This scheme provides 100% aid for Union Territories, including UT of Ladakh.
  • Beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana are selected as per the parameters received from the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC). These are further verified by Gram Sabha.
  • Beneficiaries are offered ₹90.95 per day for unskilled labour from MGNREGS.
  • Payments are converted electronically and directly to Aadhaar linked bank accounts or post office accounts.
  • This scheme gets financial assistance of ₹12,000 under the Swachh Bharat Mission –Gramin (SBM-G) to construct toilets. The construction must collaborate with MGNREGS and other schemes.

Who Are the Beneficiaries Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G)?

Individuals need to meet the following criteria to qualify as a beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana -

  • Houseless and household families having houses with zero, one or two rooms with kutcha wall and roof as per SECC data.
  • Preference will be given based on house deprivation parameters to individuals belonging to different category i.e. Minority, SC/ST and others.

How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin Online?

Unfortunately, there is no such direct process to apply Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin online as the beneficiary selection is made on the basis of the Socio-Economic and Caste census 2011. Then, Gram Sabha receives the list for verification. However, they can add a beneficiary or register, and the process can be done by respective Gram Panchayat or ward members by visiting the official website of PMAY G. You can also download the AwaasApp and check the beneficiary list.

  • Step-1: Provide personal details such as gender, Aadhaar number, mobile number, etc., and upload the consent form.
  • Step-2: Next, click on “Search” to find the beneficiary name and PMAY ID. Click on 'Select to Register'. The beneficiary details will generate and appear on the screen.
  • Step-3: Fill in remaining essential beneficiary details, including ownership type, relation, Aadhaar number and upload the consent form.
  • Step-4: Next, you need to provide information, including beneficiary name, account details etc. Enter the loan amount details.
  • Step-5: Finally, provide the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number and MGNREGA job card number of the beneficiary and the penultimate section will be filled by the concerned officer.

What Are the Documents Required to Qualify for PMAY-G?

In order to get an affordable pucca house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin scheme, individuals have to submit the following documents -

  • Proof of Address: individuals must submit a letter from a recognized public authority or public servant verifying the identity and residence of the customer or a life insurance policy, or Aadhaar card or Voter ID card.
  • Identity Proof: individuals must submit an Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Photo identity issued by the Government, a letter from a recognized public authority or public servant verifying the applicant's identity with a photograph.
  • Proof of Income: individuals must submit a bank account statement of the previous three months, salary certificate (if any).

The list of other supporting documents includes an affidavit stating none of the applicant family members owns a pucca house, property registration certificate (if applicable), certificate claiming the cost of construction, consent document for using Aadhaar number, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number and MGNREGA job card number, ethnic group certificate.

  • Step-1: Visit the official website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin.
  • Step-2: Move to the 'Stakeholders' options and from the drop-down list, select IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary'.
  • Step-3: Enter the registration number you have received upon getting the application accepted.
