India is a country where higher education is still unattainable to large scale students due to their financial state. In such cases, the Central and State Governments’ interference is quite essential to uplift India’s economically deprived section.

Therefore, the University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced the Ishan Uday scholarship to encourage education in India’s Northeast region. It is an initiative to back all the economically distressed students through financial aid.

Under the governance of UGC, India’s Union Ministry of Education launched a scholarship scheme called Ishan Uday. Applicants under this scheme will receive monthly stipends to pursue their general education successfully.

Some salient features of the Ishan Uday scholarship are as follows:

• This Scheme will ensure equal opportunities for every student of the Northeast of India.
• The State and Central Government will make reservations and provisions to support females and transgender’s education.
• This scheme will also cover students in combined courses. However, it will be invalid for Double Degree courses with separate tenures.
• The slot distribution in this scholarship scheme will be according to each Northeastern state’s population.
• All the beneficiaries will receive a scholarship amount directly into their accounts through a Bank Transfer.
• Applicants must apply for a fresh or renewed scholarship every year to continue their course duration.

The eligibility criteria of the Ishan Uday Scholarship in 2022 are as follows:

• All the candidates must be a resident of any of the Northeastern states that consist of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
• The annual income of an applicant’s family from all sources must not exceed ₹ 4,50,000.
• In addition, the applicants must pass class 12 or equivalent examination in the previous year of their application for the present academic year.
• Also, they require a degree course or combined course admission in-
  • Any institutes, colleges or universities under Section 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act.
  • Universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.
  • Any institution qualified to receive UGC grants-in-aid.
  • Educational institutions that receive funds from the State or Centre.
  • Nationally reputed institutes.
  • Institutes with AISHE code admission.
• Lastly, transgender candidates are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Below are some easy steps to apply for the Ishan Uday scholarship online:

• Step 1: Visit the official website of NSP and click on “New Registration”.
• Step 2: Then click on “Continue” to redirect to a page to fill up all the essential details on the ‘ * ’ marked sections.
• Step 3: You must choose “Post Matric or Top Class or MCM” for your scholarship category and “Incentive Type” as your scheme type.
• Step 4: After that, enter your mobile number to receive an OTP or ‘One Time Password’ for verification purposes. Enter that OTP carefully for a successful registration.
• Step 5: Press “Submit” and then “Login to Apply” to log in to the portal.
• Step 6: Then fill in the application form carefully and upload all the attested important documents. Following that, click on “Submit” for applying under this scheme successfully.

Note: The last date of registration is 15th January 2022, and that of submitting and other verifications of the application forms is 31st January 2022.

• Annual income proof of the candidate’s family
• Joining pro forma for new beneficiaries and pro forma for renewal issued by their current institution
• Educational Certificates like class 12 or equivalent mark sheet

Below are some key benefits of the Ishan Uday scholarship:

• This scheme has a layout of 10,000 scholarships for the Northeast region’s students.
• Students pursuing regular degree courses will receive a monthly amount of ₹ 5,400 per month until they complete their course.
• On the other hand, students in medical, paramedical, technical and professional courses will receive a monthly amount of ₹ 7,800.
