    1. Learner’s Licence: For clearing an initial driving licence test, the authority issues a learner's licence.     3. International Driving Licence: Usually, an international driving licence or IDP is obtained when an individual wants to drive vehicles in a foreign country. IDP has a validity of one year, and to obtain this document, one must appear for a specialised driving test.     4. Commercial Licence: Having a commercial vehicle licence indicates that the applicant can drive heavy vehicles. Mostly these heavy vehicles are used to carry passengers or goods and involve separate eligibility criteria for obtaining the same.

    Eligibility Criteria to Apply for a Driving Licence in Rajasthan

    In order to apply for a Rajasthan driving licence, here are some of the eligibility criteria to abide by:

    • To apply for a driving licence for motorcycles without gear, an applicant must be above the age of 16 years.
    • To apply for a driving licence for motorcycles with gear, an applicant must be above the age of 18 years.
    • To apply for a driving licence for commercial and transport vehicles, an applicant must be above the age of 20 years.
    • He or she must have a valid learner's licence. The validity of this licence must not be less than 30 days and more than 180 days from the date of issuance.

    The step-by-step guide to applying for a driving licence in Rajasthan through offline mode is as follows:

    Step 1: Visit the official website of the Government of India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and download Form 2. You can also visit the nearby RTO to get this form.

    Step 2: Then, visit RTO to submit the form, which is duly signed and filled along with the documents.

    Step 3: At the concerned department, submit your application with the documents and fees.

    Step 4: Make an appointment at your convenience for the driving test and appear for the same on the stipulated date and time.

    How to Renew a Driving Licence in Rajasthan?

    The process of renewal of a driving licence in Rajasthan involves a step-wise procedure which is simple and hassle-free. Here is a guide to renewing a driving licence:

    Step 1: Visit the official website of the Government of India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways – Parivahan Sarathi.

    Step 2: Under the dropdown list of "Online Services", click on "Driving Licence-Related Services".

    Step 3: Select state. “Rajasthan” from the Sarathi platform.

    Step 4: On the redirected page of the Transport Department of Rajasthan, click on the "Apply for DL Renewal" option and click on Continue on the following page.

    Step 5: Finally, provide details like Driving Licence number, date of birth, and captcha code. Once done, click on "Proceed" to submit your request for renewing your driving licence.

    Apart from this online method, one can visit the nearest RTO office and collect the necessary form for renewal of driving licence. Once the filing of the form is done, submit the same along with the documents and pay the fees for the same.

    What Is the Procedure to Acquire a Smart Driving Licence in Rajasthan?

    The ways to apply for a smart card driving licence in Rajasthan are easy and involve a few simple steps. This can be done through both online and offline methods. Here is the online process for obtaining a new smart card driving licence in Rajasthan (not for converting one Driving Licence to a Smart one).

    • Online Method

    Step 1: Visit the official website of Parivahan Sewa – Government of India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

    Step 2: On the homepage, under a dropdown list of "Online Services", select the "Driving Licence Related Services" option.

    Step 3: Select state "Rajasthan" on the next page.

    Step 4: Select the option "New Driving Licence" from the dropdown list of the "Apply Online" tab. You can apply for this permanent driving licence only if you have a learner's licence.

    Step 5: Fill up the necessary information related to personal credentials, attach documents as requested, book a slot for a driving test and appear for the one and pay the fees. Further, the authorities will collect the biometrics.

    Step 6: On the stipulated date, visit the RTO to appear for the driving test.

    Step 7: Upon successful completion of the driving test, the applicant will receive a smart card driving licence by post at his/her registered address.

    • Offline Method

    Step 1: Another way is by visiting the RTO office and requesting a smart card driving licence application form.

    Step 2: Fill up the form with the correct details and, attach the required documents, submit the same at the RTO office.

    Step 3: Pay application fees which depend on the personal or commercial vehicle's driving licence registration.

    Step 4: Book a time slot for appearing for a driving test. Take the test as per slot.

    Step 5: Once cleared, you will receive the smart card driving licence at your registered address, as mentioned in the form.

    • Convert an Old Driving Licence to Smart Card Driving Licence

    Nowadays, if you want to change your old/plastic driving licence into a smart card, it is possible to achieve this. Given that a smart card driving licence has various advantages, here is a step-by-step procedure for conversion of a smart card driving licence:

    Step 1: Visit the closest RTO and ask for the licence upgrade form or Smart Card Driving Licence form.

    Step 2: Fill up this form and provide the necessary details as required. Also, attach the requested documents and perform the biometric verification.

    Step 3: Make the payment of the necessary fees, and collect the receipt of it. Keep the receipt with you until the smart card driving licence arrives.

    Upon the completion of the verification, the smart card driving licence will arrive at your address.

    Procedure to Acquire an International Driving Licence in Rajasthan

    Due to digitisation, the process of online application for an international driving licence has become hassle-free and simple. Apart from this method, you can also visit the RTO and apply through the offline method.

    The following is the step-by-step guide to the application for an international driving licence in Rajasthan:

    Step 1: Visit the official website of the Government of India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways – Parivahan Sarathi.

    Step 2: Select the appropriate state, "Rajasthan" and apply for an "International Driving permit".

    Step 3: Provide necessary information about a driving licence, identity information, etc.
