Do Indians need a visa for Thailand?

Yes, Indian tourists who wish to visit Thailand must apply for a visa. To do so, you can either apply offline through a Thai embassy in India or avail of a visa-on-arrival when you land in Thailand.

Additionally, if you are travelling as a tourist for a stay of less than 30 days, you will get visa-free entry (for arrival date on or before 10th May 2024). 

Note: Thailand has announced visa-free entry for Indian tourists from November 10, 2023, to May 10, 2024, for a stay of up to 30 days. If you are visiting Thailand during or post this duration and still wish to apply for a visa, you can do so as the standard visa application process is still fully functional.

Is there a visa on arrival in Thailand for Indian citizens?

Yes, there is a visa on arrival in Thailand for Indian citizens. Indians travelling to Thailand for reasons such as tourism, business, education, etc., can apply for a visa on arrival and stay in the country for a maximum of 15 days

You need to meet the following requirements to apply for a visa on arrival:

  • The passport must be genuine and should be valid for at least 6 months.
  • You must have a valid address in Thailand whether a hotel or apartment that can be verified.
  • You must have a confirmed return ticket to show that they are flying out of Thailand within 15 days of entry, as appropriate. Open tickets do not qualify.
  • It is also necessary to prove that you have funds of at least 10,000 THB per person and 20,000 THB per family for your stay in Thailand.
  • A fee of 2,000 THB  (INR 4,460) is payable upon entry and is subject to change without notice. It must be paid in cash and the Thai currency only.

How to Apply for Tourist Visa for Thailand from India?

Indian tourists have many visa options when travelling to Thailand.

Visa-Free Entry for Indian Tourists - If you are travelling as a tourist for a stay of less than 30 days, you will get visa-free entry (for arrival date on or before 10th May 2024).

Thailand has announced visa-free entry for Indian tourists from November 10, 2023, to May 10, 2024, for a stay of up to 30 days. Regardless, the standard visa application process is still fully functional.

Visa on Arrival for Indian Tourists – If you are travelling to Thailand post 10th May 2024, for a duration of less than 15 days, then you can also apply for a visa-on-arrival.  

The visa fee is 2,000 THB for a single entry and is to be paid in cash only. The Visa-on-Arrival application process is very straightforward and can be accomplished quickly upon your arrival in Thailand.

Tourist Visa through Thai Embassy - If you are looking for a tourist visa for up to 60 days, you need to apply for the Visa in Advance at the royal Thai embassy.

To do so, you can apply offline through a Thai embassy in India in advance. Below are the steps to apply for a Thailand tourist visa through the embassy:

  • Visit the vfsglobal visa website. Select the type of visa and the embassy through which you would like to apply. 

  • Download the application form online. Fill the entire form and print it out.

  • Schedule an appointment or you can even walk-in to the visa application centre to drop off your form along with all the other required documents.

  • After completing all the processes at the centre, pay the visa fees of ₹2,500 or ₹12,000 for a single entry or multiple entry tourist visa respectively. Additional charges might be applicable.

  • Track your application and collect your passport either in-person or through courier.

Indians can travel to any part of Thailand for a maximum of 60 days on a tourist visa (depending on the type of visa they have got). All you need is:

  • Make sure your passport is valid for more than 6 months. 

  • Keep 2000 THB cash (INR 4,375) handy to pay for the visa fee.

  • Have all your bookings handy (hotel bookings, return flight tickets)

  • Filled in visa-on-arrival form (given during your flight to Thailand)

  • One passport size photograph (4x6 cm) 

  • Proof that you have at least up to 10,000 THB for your trip (not compulsory- but can be asked).

Documents required for Thailand Tourist Visa from India

If you are flying to Thailand and need to apply for a visa, don’t forget to carry all the following necessary documents:

  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months

  • Visa application form of Thailand duly filled

  • One recent Photograph of the applicant 45mm X 35mm in size

  • Round-trip air ticket or e-ticket (paid in full)

  • Hotel booking or a local address as proof of accommodation.

  • Letter of invitation (as a proof of relationship if visiting family or friends).

  • Proof of financial means (10,000 baht per person/20,000 baht per family)
