Different Types of Italy Visas for Indians and Their Validity

The following are the types of Italy visas candidates can apply for from India:

Visa Type Purpose Validity & Duration
Tourist Schengen Visa For short-term visits to the Schengen area for tourism, leisure, or visiting family and friends. Valid for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period 
Business Schengen Visa For business meetings, conferences, and other short-term professional activities. Valid for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period
Student Schengen Visa This is for individuals enrolling in a full-time study program at a recognised institution within the Schengen Area. Valid for up to 90 days within a 180-day period

Transit Schengen Visa Airport Transit Visa (Type A): This is for passing through a Schengen airport's international transit area, not entering the Schengen zone. Type A – For 24 hours
Short-Term Visa (Type C): The most common type of Schengen visa. Can be:
- Single-entry: Allows entry once during the validity period.
- Double-entry: Allows entry twice during the validity period.
- Multiple-entry: Allows multiple entries within the validity period, up to the specified number of days.
Type C – Up to 90 days within a 180-day period
National Long-Stay Visa (Type D): National visa issued by individual Schengen countries for work, study, or family reunification. It can be single-entry or multiple-entry. Type D – Up to 1 year
Limited Territorial Validity Visa (LTV): This visa allows entry to specific Schengen countries only, not the entire area. It is issued for special cases. LTV – Up to 90 days within a 180-day period

A few people who are exempted from the fees include:

  • Kids who are below 6 years old.

  • Representatives participating in events of NGOs, sports, and conferences and who are less than 25 years of age.

  • Researchers from third countries travel for scientific research.

  • Students, graduates or undergraduates travelling for study.

  • In addition to the visa fees, VFS Global charges a service fee for processing applications.
