Traffic Fines & Penalties for Different Traffic Violations in Kerala

Raising concern over the rise in accident and number of deaths, the Government of India threw at the citizens the revised penalties for violation of the traffic rules. The Motor Vehicle Act 1988 was revised. With effect from 1st September 2019, the scenario of vehicle users changed. Most of them did not forget to carry their driving licence, a copy of insurance and other documents.

Taking the burden off the shoulders, the Kerala government declares to slash the traffic penalties. People can breathe and relax while they drive. The idea of implementing the fines was to bring law and order. It was to make people conscious when driving on the road. Let us see the slash in the traffic penalties as levied in Kerala:

When Were the New Traffic Fines Implemented in Kerala?

The Motor Vehicle Act 1988 was revised and was implemented from 1st September 2019, the scenario of vehicle users changed. With this implementation the state government has benefited with ₹6.50 crores added to the state treasury and 65655 cases registered within the first four months. 

Have Traffic Fines Been Reduced in Kerala?

Keeping in mind the burden over the shoulders of daily commuters the State Government slashed the traffic fine amount implemented by the Indian Government. However, still there are certain strict restrictions for violations like drunk driving and other offences, where the fines remain unchanged. So offenders have to pay the penalties as per the revised rates of traffic fines.

Important Points to Consider as a Citizen

As a citizen of Kerala, you must keep a few points in mind while driving or riding a vehicle. For instance, you should not exceed the set speed limit. Moreover, you must avoid overloading your vehicle.

Apart from that, remember to carry important documents related to the vehicle, such as RC and DL. Abiding by the traffic rules and following the instructions of the traffic authorities is also mandatory when driving on the roads of Kerala to avoid penalties.
