Online Process for RC Renewal

  • Step 1: Visit the Parivahan Sewa portal. Click "Online Services" from the menu and choose "Vehicle Related Services".
  • Step 2: Select your residential state. Not all states allow you to apply for registration renewal for your vehicle online, such as West Bengal.
  • Step 3: Select your nearest RTO and click on "Proceed".
  • Step 4: Choose "RC related Services from the drop-down list of "Services". Opt for "Renewal of Registration".
  • Step 5: Enter your vehicle registration number and chassis number. Click "Verify Details" to complete the application process.

To pay your pending road tax online, here are the simple steps to follow -

  • Step 1: On the Parivahan Sewa portal, select your residential state and RTO. Select "Pay Your Tax" after selecting the tab "Services". You can also select from the option mentioned below.
  • Step 2: Enter your vehicle registration number and select "Verify Details". Check details of pending tax payments. Pay the same using net banking or debit card facility. After a successful payment, you can book an RC renewal at a selected RTO for your vehicle inspection.

Offline Process for RC Renewal

Individuals without internet access can opt for the offline procedure. You can collect Form 25 from RTO. Also, you can download the same from the official website of Parivahan Sewa. Fill it in with all relevant information, such as register number, expiry date and other essential data.

Submit the duly filled form along with the renewal fees and supporting documents to your nearest RTO. After completing the transaction, you will get a receipt from there. Keep it carefully for future reference.

What Are the Documents Required for Renewal of RC?

Before you proceed to apply for RC renewal, make sure to keep the following documents handy for a hassle-free application -

  • PUC or Pollution Under Control Certificate issued from the government-backed PUC centre.
  • The RC Book.
  • Original Registration Certificate smart card.
  • One copy of the PAN card or Form 60 or 61, whichever is required.
  • Pencil print of engine and chassis of the vehicle whose registration requires renewal.
  • A duly filled Form 25.
  • Document with an owner's signature and an insurance policy certificate of the car.
  • Vehicle's fitness certificate.
  • Statement proof for up-to-date road tax payment.

What Is the Validity of RC Renewal?

The validity of a renewed registration certificate is 5 years. After the expiry of the validity, renew the vehicle's registration certificate as long as RTO deems it fit. The government had extended the validity of documents related to vehicle registration and other vital vehicle-related documents. Any vehicle's validity expired on 1st February 2021 or is about to expire by 30th September 2021 will be legal until 30th September 2021.

You can check the RC renewal application status online by following these simple steps -

  • Step 1: Visit the Parivaha Sewa portal. Click "Online Services" and select "Vehicle Related Services" from the drop-down menu.
  • Step 2: Select your residential state from the drop-down menu.
  • Step 3: Select your nearest RTO and hit "Proceed".
  • Step 4:  Select "Status" and Know Your Application Status from the list.
  • Step 5: Enter your vehicle renewal application number or registration number, whichever is convenient for you. Enter the captcha and select "Submit".
  • Step 6: You will be redirected to a page to enter the application number you received after paying renewal fees. Select "View Report" to see your vehicle's RC renewal status.

Currently, the government plans to extend online services for all vehicle-related services. This “Super” mobile application is a one-stop solution, dealing with all vehicle-related documents, including registration certificates. You can apply for RC renewal through this application as well.

Essential Guidelines to Follow before Applying for RC Renewal

As per the Parivahan Sewa portal, you must follow the guidelines mentioned below to avoid future inconvenience -

  • An application for RC renewal must not be more than 60 days before the expiry of the registration certificate.
  • Pay the applicable renewal fee as prescribed in Rule 81 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.
  • Pay any due taxes to renew your car's registration certificate.
