Gurugram, commonly known as Gurgaon, is a city in Haryana. It is one of the satellite cities of Delhi and a part of the national capital region. Gurugram houses India's second-largest information technology hub and the third-largest banking and finance hub. The increasing population makes it necessary for people to strictly follow traffic rules, and the authorities ensure the same by imposing traffic fines on the violators.

Haryana plans to impose a green tax on old commercial vehicles within the NCR- district. The Haryana government plans this to reduce vehicles that can increase air pollution in Gurgaon. The traffic fines in Gurugram collected from the green tax will be used to implement measures to reduce pollution.

The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act of 2019 has made traffic rules stringent for citizens. Owing to the daily accidents and people's lack of awareness, the government of India declared the amendment of the motor vehicles act of 1988 on 28^th august 2019. The new rules came into effect on 1^st September 2019.

Haryana implemented the new laws, which include a massive hike in the fine for traffic rule violations. As per reports, Haryana has collected nearly one Crore as a fine under the new provisions of the revised Motor Vehicles Act. It has also raised fifty-two lakhs, of which ten lakhs came from traffic fines in Gurugram.

Have Traffic Fines Been Reduced in Noida?

When the newly revised motor vehicles act came into effect on 1^st September 2019. Many states implemented it, while many did not. States such as Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and west Bengal opposed the hike in traffic fines. They believe this will stress drivers and owners and will not solve any issues.

Haryana was among the first states to implement stricter traffic rules. Later on, it reduced the traffic fines in Gurugram and other cities. As per reports, the Haryana government decided to reduce traffic fines in a few sections. Fines related to these sections will be reduced from what is fixed by the central government.

Important Points to Consider as a Citizen

Following are a few things to consider if you want to avoid paying traffic fines in Gurugram:

• You should always carry your driver’s licence, carrying a soft copy is enough to avoid traffic fines in Gurugram.
• You should always put on a seat belt, and the same applies to the person seated beside the driver. For two wheelers, wearing helmets is a must.
• You must have a third-party licence for your vehicle. It is mandatory as per the motor vehicles act of India.
• You should check and renew your policy within time.
• You should update your PUC so that your car does not cause any pollution to the surrounding area.
• Never bribe a traffic officer, as it is illegal and equally immoral.
• You should always drive within the said speed limit.
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol. In such cases, opt for an alternative way of commuting.
